Foolish Club Studios was established with the vision of developing stories of “foolish dreamers,” those who push boundaries to pursue greatness on the field, at home, or in life. It produces original scripted and unscripted programming that transcends sport and celebrates the narratives of humility, heart, and hard work. The name is a nod to the Kansas City Chiefs founder and American sports pioneer Lamar Hunt, who along with the original American Football League owners, was foolish enough to take on the established National Football League in the early 1960s.
“Foolish Club Studios was created to tell compelling stories that reflect the values, determination, and vision that have defined the Kansas City Chiefs for more than six decades,” said Mark Donovan, CEO of Foolish Club Studios. “As we continue to build our slate and expand our ambitions in entertainment, UTA’s expertise and relationships across film, television, and beyond make them an ideal partner to help bring these stories to audiences around the world.”
“Foolish Club Studios has a clear vision for translating the spirit and legacy of the Chiefs into compelling entertainment, and we’re excited to help expand that work across film, television, and media rights,” said UTA Partners and agents Marissa Devins and Ryan Hayden. “The combination of Foolish Club’s commitment to original storytelling and the Chiefs’ global reach creates a powerful platform for projects that connect with audiences well beyond sports. We’re thrilled to partner with Mark, Lara, Gelsomina, and the entire Foolish Club team as they grow the studio and its slate.”
Most recently, Foolish Club Studios premiered Chasing Goals, a feature documentary produced in partnership with Trevor Noah’s Day Zero Productions and Wavelength, at Kansas City’s inaugural Full Tilt Film Festival. The film follows Global KC, a Kansas City-based youth soccer club composed of refugee athletes representing 29 countries, as they pursue a championship at the prestigious USA Cup while navigating challenges both on and off the field. Foolish Club Studios President and COO Lara Krug participated in a post-screening conversation following the film’s official premiere, while Head of Studio and Development Gelsomina Picariello joined the festival’s “Franchise to Film” panel, a discussion exploring how professional sports franchises and leagues are evolving beyond the field as storytellers, creators, and entertainment brands.
The film’s premiere marked another milestone for the studio as it continues to build a diverse slate of original content, with several high-profile projects currently in development and additional announcements expected soon.
The studio’s first credited project was The Kingdom, the Disney+ and ESPN docuseries chronicling the Kansas City Chiefs 60-plus-year history and offering unprecedented access to the 2024 season which was produced in partnership with Words+Pictures, Skydance Sports, NFL Films, and 2PM Productions. The studio’s leadership also collaborated with Hallmark Media on Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story as the team’s first foray into feature film. Together, these projects reflect the studio’s commitment to developing stories that resonate far beyond sports while remaining rooted in the values and legacy that have defined the Chiefs organization for generations.
